True Treasures

It has been two years now since my Mom has been gone and I have come to hold dear many things that she has left behind. One great treasure I have is a binder full of letters has written me on my mission. It meant so much that she would write once and many times twice a week my whole mission. I loved them then, but I think I love them more now. Last year to remember her I sat and read many of them and then would call my family and reminisce about her. She would write about all the details of her every day life, who was sick, who was coming over for dinner, who was getting married, and then all of her thoughts about the events. One of my favorite things she did was talk on tape for me. She would go in to a closet to talk to me because she said she was embarrassed to have everyone listen, I think she went in there so she could tell me about everyone without them knowing. I still love hearing her voice, it makes it seem like she isn't that far away. She really encouraged me to go on my mission and I am sure if she could send me a letter now she would tell me that things are fine and to remind my dad to wash his socks :) Since I have cherished those letters and any other personal notes of encouragement she wrote me I have tried to write letters to Benton so that he will always know how much his mom loved him, too. Thanks for teaching me to cherish the important things, Mom!

Suzanne what a sweet post. Your Mom is such was such a sweet lady. I bet you were smiling as you read your Mom's letters with all of her funny stories. Thanks for your post, what a good idea to write letters now so your kids will know when times get tough.

We love and think of your mom often too. Chad also has a binder of your moms letters from his mission that he holds dear to his heart. I would like to find a way to preserve them somehow--I thought about having them bound in a book or even laminating and then binding. Any thoughts? Any ways, we really love and miss your mom and think of her often. She has been a wonderful example to me in my life and I am grateful for her. She has inspired me to be a better person. We like to reminisce about some of the fun/funny times we had together (i.e. someones pants falling down outside-haha). I can still hear her voice in my head and remember her laugh. We had a lot of great times and I loved their visits to Texas. I know she watches over us all.

Suz, thanks for the sweet post. I have a journal I write for Abby. Its been fun for me to organize my thoughts for her. Also, I always think of your cute mom when I am in the SL temple. Remember the time we went together and your dad thought she should look at the color of the wall paper to use it for your new house?

Those really are true treasures. You used to read some of those letters to me...and remember the time I used to read you to sleep when you were sick? Oh the memories! Thanks for sharing this with us.
